Experience the Exceptional Power of the St. Benedict Medal Clip Charm

Discover the profound significance of the St. Benedict Medal, a revered emblem highly esteemed by the Holy Church for its extraordinary potency. Wearing this medal with devoted trust in the life-giving power of the Holy Cross and the merits of the Holy Father St. Benedict is believed to invoke powerful protection for both spiritual and temporal needs. This ancient and honored medal, cherished by Catholics, holds a stunning portrait that resonates with wearers who feel blessed to be chosen to bear it.

**Front Inscription:**
On the front side, Saint Benedict is depicted holding a cross in his right hand—the object of his unwavering devotion—and in his left, the Rule for Monasteries.

**Back Inscription:**
The reverse side features a poisoned cup, referencing the legend of Benedict. Hostile monks attempted to poison him, yet the cup containing poisoned wine shattered when the saint made the sign of the cross over it. Above the cup are the words “Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti” (“The Cross of [Our] Holy Father Benedict”). Surrounding the figure of Saint Benedict are the words “Eius In Obitu Nostro Praesentia Muniamur!” (“May we be strengthened by his presence in the hour of our death”), reflecting his role as the patron of a happy death.

**Cross Inscription:**
The cross contains the letters C S S M L – N D S M D, initials of the words “Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux! Non [Nunquam?] Draco Sit Mihi Dux!” (“May the Holy Cross be my light! May the dragon never be my overlord”). The large C S P B stands for “Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti” (“The Cross of [Our] Holy Father Benedict”). Surrounding the back of the medal are the letters V R S N S M V – S M Q L I V B, referencing the formula “Vade Retro Satana: Vade Retro Satana! Nunquam Suade Mihi Vana! Sunt Mala Quae Libas. Ipse Venena Bibas!” (“Begone Satan! Never tempt me with your vanities! What you offer me is evil. Drink the poison yourself!”). At the top is the word “Pax,” meaning “Peace.”

**Power Against Evil:**
Known as the “Devil-Chasing Medal,” its efficacy dates back to the 11th century, possibly initially taking the form of Saint Benedict’s Cross. Pope Leo IX used it, and the reverse side carries the “Vade Retro Satana” (“Step Back, Satana”) formula, employed by Catholics since the 15th century to ward off evil.

**Usage and Approval:**
The medal is sometimes carried as part of the Rosary and is also found individually. Its use became widespread after formal approval by Pope Benedict XIV in the 18th century. Catholics employ the St. Benedict Medal to protect against spiritual and physical dangers, particularly those associated with evil, poison, and temptation.
