Tasbih is a form of dhikr, a spiritual practice that involves the glorification of God in Islam, typically by reciting “Subḥānallāh” (سُبْحَانَ ٱللَّٰهِ, meaning “Glorified is God”). This sacred phrase is often repeated a specific number of times, with counting accomplished using either the phalanges of the right hand or a misbaha (prayer beads) to keep track.
Tasbih serves various purposes, from acts of devotion to expressions of shock or amazement. In Islamic tradition, it is recommended that Muslims recite the phrase “Subḥānallāh” 33 times after prayer and throughout the day. Prophet Muhammad taught that it is one of the four praises that God likes Muslims to continuously recite.
